Selectie uit de sieradencollectie van CODA

Sieraden zijn sinds mensenheugenis een manier om jezelf te uiten, om je kwetsbaarheid of juist je kracht te tonen, je identiteit te onderstrepen en te laten zien waar je staat. Het sieraad vertelt niet alleen een persoonlijk verhaal, maar raakt ook aan de tijdsgeest en nodigt uit tot gesprek tussen de drager en degene die het sieraad opmerkt. In aansluiting op de groepstentoonstelling Breekbaar in de grote zaal van CODA Museum presenteert CODA in de Van Reekum Galerij een selectie sieraden uit eigen collectie. De sieraden in deze tentoonstelling zijn niet alleen gemaakt met breekbare materialen als porselein, bot, glas en serviesgoed maar verhalen ook over de kwetsbaarheid en breekbaarheid van mens en natuur.

De sieradencollectie van CODA
Een bijzondere en unieke deelcollectie van CODA is de collectie sieraden, met ruim 10.000 objecten de grootste museale collectie moderne kunstenaarssieraden en modesieraden wereldwijd. Deze collectie groeit gestaag door bruiklenen, schenkingen en legaten en toont de ontwikkeling van het sieraad vanaf de jaren zestig tot nu. CODA toont het sieraad in al zijn verschijningsvormen: van kunstenaarssieraden tot modesieraden. Tentoonstellingen in de Van Reekum Galerij bieden plaats aan sieraden en laten zien welke bruggen en verbanden er gelegd kunnen worden tussen disciplines en kunstvormen die het sieraad overstijgen.
 

PRIL - Judith Bloedjes

De sieraden, objecten, schetsen en installaties van Judith Bloedjes (NL, 1968) vallen op door de verstilde, ingetogen vormtaal en kleurgebruik en de hoge artistieke kwaliteit. Haar werk – zowel sieraden en installaties als schetsen en proeven – toont zonder uitzondering haar liefde voor schoonheid, vorm, detail, ambacht en materiaal. Voor presentatie sieraden uit de CODA collectie in de Van Reekum Galerij maakte Judith Bloedjes in opdracht van CODA een nieuwe wandinstallatie die ze de titel Pril gaf.

Wandinstallatie Pril is opgebouwd uit halssieraden, oorstekers en broches van wit porselein – door Bloedjes ‘wearable art’ genoemd – en porseleinen sieraden met zwarte (inkt)lijnen. Daarnaast zijn mobiles opgenomen die zij maakte met grafisch ontwerper en partner Geert Keuter. Judith Bloedjes: “Wij zijn al 35 jaar samen en met Geert praat ik over mijn twijfels en bespreek ik mijn werk. Nieuw – pril – is dat we samenwerken. Hij snijdt en plakt, componeert de losse letterfragmenten en ik vouw het ijzerdraad. We vullen elkaar aan.”

Het werkproces en de kleurexperimenten van Judith Bloedjes worden inzichtelijk gemaakt met proeven, schetsen en experimentresultaten. Haar werk was eerder te zien in CODA Museum in de tentoonstelling Poetic Ceramics (2021) en maakt deel uit van de CODA collectie.

Selection from the CODA jewellery collection

Since time immemorial, jewellery has been a way for people to express themselves, to display either one's vulnerability or strength, and to underline one's identity or position. A piece of jewellery not only tells a personal story but also touches upon the spirit of the times and sparks conversation between the wearer and the observer. Complementing the group exhibition ‘Fragile’ CODA presents a selection of jewellery from its own collection in the Van Reekum Galerij. The jewellery on display is crafted from delicate materials such as porcelain, bone, glass, and crockery, or conveys stories about the fragility and vulnerability of humanity, the body, and nature.

The CODA Jewellery Collection 
The CODA jewellery collection is one of the museum's most special and unique subcollection; with over 10,000 objects it is the largest museum collection of modern author and costume jewellery in the world. This collection continues to grow through loans, donations, and bequests and charts the development of jewellery from the 1960s to the present day. CODA shows jewellery in all its manifestations: from author’s jewellery presented as small sculptures to costume jewellery. Exhibitions in the Van Reekum Galerij show the connections and bridges that can be made between disciplines and art forms that transcend jewellery.  
 

PRIL - Judith Bloedjes

Judith Bloedjes’ (NL, 1968) jewellery, objects, sketches and installations stand out due to their stilled, understated aesthetic and use of colour, as well as their high artistic quality. Each piece – whether it be jewellery, installations, sketches or prototypes – consistently demonstrates her love of beauty, form, detail, craftmanship, and material. For the presentation of jewellery from the CODA collection at the Van Reekum Galerij, Judith Bloedjes, commissioned by CODA, created a new wall installation entitled Pril. 

The Pril wall installation comprises necklaces, stud earrings, and brooches made of white porcelain —referred to by Bloedjes as 'wearable art'— and porcelain jewellery adorned with black (ink) lines. Additionally, mobiles created in collaboration with graphic designer and partner Geert Keuter are included. Judith Bloedjes: “We have been together for 35 years, and with Geert, I discuss my doubts and my work. What is new – nascent (pril) – is our collaboration. He cuts and pastes, composing the individual letter fragments, and I fold the iron wire. We complement each other.” 

Judith Bloedjes' work process and colour experiments are shown through prototypes, sketches, and the results of her experiments. Her work was featured in the CODA Museum exhibition Poetic Ceramics (2021) and is also part of the CODA collection.
